Hello friends,

I hope this finds all of you well. I have been at Green Lake, WI at a meeting of the Ministers Council. Meetings are not very exciting, nor did I expect them to be. Yet it is always a joy to come to Green Lake.  Such powerful parts of the Baptist story are told through building and room names, through chapels and walks and many other ways. It is good to remember those who have gone before us and legacy they have left.

The sermon text for this Sunday is Psalm 124. This is one of the Psalms of praise and thanksgiving; it speaks of a time of distress and praises God for deliverance. God does deliver us in ways seen and unseen, this is something we know, but I wonder how often we embrace. When we are in the midst of trouble and turmoil, do we embrace the idea and the faith that God delivers? It seems more natural to find our own solutions, to find our own way out than to relay on the Lord. Or we often tell God what our help should look like, and how it should occur. Neither is relying on the Lord. What if, instead, we asked God for wisdom, for guidance and then stayed open for an answer? What if God, instead of changing the situation, calls us to change? Is this the help we desire? God has helped us in the past and will continue to help us in the present and the future. Can we accept the help of the Lord?

Peace,

Jonathan
